Self taught artist since 2000;
I am a San Francisco native with a thirty year history of commercial painting and decorating.
I began doing art in 2000 when a work injury left me temporarily disabled. At first I began doing collage as a distraction from my pain and insomnia, but I soon realized that I had tapped into a hidden source of creativity. Although I work in several different mediums I indulge myself primarily in collage. I love the idea of not knowing where the work will lead me. My first series was called “Ten Our Fathers” in which I attempted to represent my father who died when I was thirteen. It didn’t take long for me to realize how therapeutic it was to have a dialogue with my past. Much of my collage art depicts personal and painful emotions as well as memories from my past. Using tiny pieces of paper, like colored paint strokes, I find I can achieve the shading and texture I desire. I compare my collage process to reconstructing dreams. I see things in my work materialize and take form and meaning but like a dream the ever shifting presence of another vision overshadows a landscape in my mind. I don`t always know why I pick certain topics but certainly some world issues irritate me more than others.
In my art I tend to deconstruct the childhood fairy tales and myths of my youth. I often attack and challenge the ideals and teachings of religion and politics because I see them as abusive, shaming and dis-empowering. To me, the honesty in my art acts as a refuge and strengthens the child within.

The numbers are not necessarily in order of production, but my staff, and not very logical filing system.
A huge hello
Maurizio
Wow, Art Basel Miami, good luck with the art work. I used to do Art Expo NYC for years, very competitive show. I wouldn't waste the postage on the White House. If someone doesn't steal it it goes into an archive, never to be seen again.
